Cleaning Your Carpet

If you want your carpet to look great for as long as possible, you will need to follow the best practices for keeping a carpet clean. This not only involves cleaning up stains effectively, but also avoiding mistakes such as using excessive deodorizers.

Remove Stains Quickly

When you spill something on the carpet, you will need to take immediate action to make sure that the stain does not set in and become permanent. Not only that, but if the substance spilled on your carpet is acidic, it can eat away at your carpet's fibers and ruin your carpet. However, you shouldn't scrub the carpet too vigorously because you will damage the carpet fibers. Rather, you should use a rag to blot the stain to soak up as much of the staining agent as possible. Quickly apply a rag or else the staining agent will soak into your carpet padding underneath and be more difficult to remove.

Carefully Choose A Cleaning Chemical

Make sure to use a cleaning chemical that is safe to use on your carpet. Some cleaning chemicals can react to the stain and will cause it to become more permanent, while other cleaning chemicals can damage the carpet itself. Any detergents you use must be designed specifically for use with carpets. There are also some cleaning chemicals that can cause discoloration. If you are not sure if your cleaning chemical has this effect, you will want to test the chemical on an area of your carpet that is not very visible, such as the inside of a closet. Know what type of carpet you have, including the material your carpet was made from, and research whether the cleaning chemical is safe to use with that material.

Don't Use Too Much Water

Do not use too much water because this can spread the staining agent out and make it more difficult to remove the stain from your carpet. Excess moisture can also encourage mold growth, which can be difficult to eliminate once it starts.

Deodorize Your Carpet

If you are unhappy with the smell of your carpet, you can apply deodorizing powders. However, do not use this as an alternative to cleaning your carpet. Also, if you use deodorizers too much, they will build up on your carpet and collect dirt.

Hire Professional Cleaners

While there are many things you can do to keep your carpet cleaned, there is little that is more effective than having your carpet professionally cleaned by a company like Gulf Coast Carpet Cleaning. You could purchase your own steam cleaner, but home steam cleaners are usually not powerful enough to clean the floor adequately.

About Me

Children and Remodeling Projects Can Co-exist

When my family realized that we were "outgrowing" our home, we decided to peruse the local homes for sale, but didn't find any suitable for our family. We didn't want to move too far, because our children were thriving in our local schools. We then decided that remodeling our current home was a much better option, but we weren't sure if we could still live our daily lives normally while the work was being performed. We also worried that our littlest ones would pester the workers or end up in hazardous situations. When the project started, we quickly learned that it would be much less chaotic than we expected. Our little ones loved watching the workers, and it turned out to be a great learning experience for us all! I decided to start a blog to help other families considering home improvement projects, so come back soon for tips!
