3 Tools To Help You Remove Pet Messes From Your Carpet

Pets bring a wonderful sense of happiness and joy to many households. Yet nobody expects you to enjoy having to clean up pet messes from your carpet. The good news is that, by arming yourself with the right tools, you can keep the effort involved to a minimum. This article will outline three specific items to help reduce the time you have to spend removing your pet's messes from the carpet.

Tool #1 - Putty Knife

Removing solid pet waste from carpet can be a daunting task. The most effective method--picking up the mess with a paper towel--is also among the grossest, as well as the most likely to leave behind stubborn stains. Make your life much easier by reaching for a putty knife instead.

All you have to do is press the knife into the pile of the carpet right at the edge of the mess. Then gently push it forward, while holding a dustpan on the other side. The thin, flat blade of a putty knife is perfect for maximizing the amount of waste you can remove in one swipe, while minimizing the amount of residue left behind.

Tool #2 - Enzyme Cleaner

Smells have a nasty way of lingering in even the most carefully cleaned carpet. Treating a stink stain with a solution of vinegar and baking soda may help for a while. Yet because this method doesn't eliminate the source of the odor, unwanted smells tend to start emanating again before long. This may be true even when using commercial products, which are packed with perfumes that can only mask the underlying scent for so long.

Instead, consider investing in an enzyme cleaner. These products don't just cover up smelly stains--they help break down the proteins and starches that cause those smells. When using such products, be sure to follow the instructions carefully. It may be necessary to cover the stain with a damp cloth in order to keep the area moist while the enzyme cleaner does it's job.

Tool #3 - Carpet Extractor

Most people automatically reach for paper towels when it's time to clean up a liquid mess. Yet even careful blotting can leave behind a lot of that liquid, allowing it to penetrate more deeply into the carpet. A carpet extractor represents a much more efficient removal method. These appliances--essentially handheld carpet shampooers--utilize a scrub brush, hot water, and detergent to eliminate even the largest of messes. About Me

Children and Remodeling Projects Can Co-exist

When my family realized that we were "outgrowing" our home, we decided to peruse the local homes for sale, but didn't find any suitable for our family. We didn't want to move too far, because our children were thriving in our local schools. We then decided that remodeling our current home was a much better option, but we weren't sure if we could still live our daily lives normally while the work was being performed. We also worried that our littlest ones would pester the workers or end up in hazardous situations. When the project started, we quickly learned that it would be much less chaotic than we expected. Our little ones loved watching the workers, and it turned out to be a great learning experience for us all! I decided to start a blog to help other families considering home improvement projects, so come back soon for tips!
